I think I’ve gotten everyone, but already it seems like I’m getting behind. Am I missing anyone?

Just to clarify. Not all the money Marion firefighters receive comes from the fire department. It is true they have a point system as you stated. But they also receive 200.00 from the Marion Trustee each year.

Happy Harry I'm not sure but here we go. I think the whole conflict between Mitchell Fire and Marion Township Fire, boils down to a bunch of the older guys on Mitchell fire department. It's seems more like just some of the guys being jealous. I know firefighters on both departments and i would have to say, in my opinion, that Marion is the better department. They have a bunch of younger boys who are very interested in this community, the lives, and lively hood of the citizens. The guys on Marion and Mitchell both receive money at the end of the year, but heres the difference. Some of the Mitchell firemen have received thousands of dollars in a year for being a volunteer fireman. A VOLUNTEER!!!! making a thousand dollars a year??? So where is the volunteer part of it. And who pays that money, is it the citizens of Mitchell??? If it is, why are we paying for sub-standard service, or no service at all?? My cousin is on Marion township fire department and he made just a little over one hundred dollars last year, he said thats pretty standard and that some of the guys get two or three hundred dollars a year, and thats pretty much top end. I ask where the money came from, it's from the fire department, they pay their guys, and it's twenty five cents a point. They make something like five points a call. So one dollar twenty five cents a call. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS at $1.25 a call, that is dedication!! And then I found out that most of the guys give the money back to the department to buy the equipment that they need. Some of that money bought their own extrication equipment to remove people from vehicles. During the tornados that struck Mitchell last April, Mitchell couldn't get out of their station, in comes Marion to help the citizens that Mitchell swore to protect. When Mitchell did manage to get a truck on the road, they ran over a stop sign and got a flat tire and they were done. In my opinion, and most everybody I talk to, Marion acts, looks, trains, and performs more like a paid fire department than most paid departments, and they make a damn site less for doing it than our semi-paid, looks like person off the street, un-professional acting, non training, letting people suffer, burn to death, lose everything they have, bunch of good ole' boys we call a fire department. I have seen the new fire truck the city bought, the one with all the seats in it so more firemen can ride in it, go past my house with one person in it. I've seen Marion's new truck, the one with all the seats in it so more firemen can ride in it, go past my house and you couldn't get another person in it if you tried. Most of the boys on Marion live in the city, why don't we get those boys to lend the city a hand, or just let marion have the trucks, equipment, etc. maybe they can turn it around so we can feel safe when we sleep at night!!

I have had two friends in the past two years who have lost their homes and all their belongings due to the slow response of the Mitchell Fire Department. It's not just the slow response. They act like they don't have the foggest idea what their doing. Some have their fire gear on. Some have no gear on. Some have parts of it on. Don't they take the same training as Marion Fire Department? I've never heard complaints on Marion Fire Department. I'm sure there has been at one time or another. But seems they know what their doing. Perhaps they need to let their department take care of the City too. Would probably be alot more homes saved. Not to mention lives.
