Contest #1: $25 in Free Gas

Interested in $25 worth of free gas? Alright, listen up.

This will be the first of what I hope to be many more giveaways on the website.

The contest is simple: I’m giving away $25 worth of gas. I’d prefer it to be from the White River Co-op south of Mitchell on Highway 37, but I’m not sure if they do gift cards or certificates. If not, hopefully I can arrange something with them. Otherwise, I’d prefer it to be from some place locally owned (suggestions are welcome).

Without further adieu, here’s the rules:

  • To enter, just leave a comment below. You can post something constructive or just say “hey” or whatever. As long as you leave a comment, you’re entered. (You don’t have to use your real name, but please enter your real e-mail address. Otherwise, I have no way to get in touch with you. Realize that whatever “name” you enter will show up, but your e-mail address will only be visible by me. I promise not to spam you.)
  • Enter only once per household. I’m no Sherlock, but I am pretty good at this computer thing. If I catch you, you’ll never win anything, promise — and if I can figure out who you are, I reserve the right to tell everybody that you suck. By entering this contest, you give me the explicit right to do so. =) Seriously, I’m trying to be nice here. Make it easy on me and these things will happen again in the future.
  • Contest ends at 11:59pm on February 12th. If you post a comment after that time, you’re outta luck. The time displayed on your comment will be the “official” time.
  • Your “entry number” will be the number next to your comment. They start at one and go up. On February 13th, I’ll use a random number generator to come up with five random numbers between one and the number of the last (eligible) comment. If your number comes up, I’ll shoot you an e-mail and as long as you respond within 24 hours, you win. If you don’t, I’ll go to the next number and continue on, until either someone wins or I go nuts.
  • After a winner has been determined, I get to announce your name as the winner (otherwise someone will invariably accuse me or not really giving away the $25 worth of gas). If you don’t want your name to appear, don’t enter.
  • You need not be a Mitchell resident to enter, however you must have some “suitable” connection to Mitchell (e.g. you work in Mitchell). “Suitable” is whatever I say it is. In other words, I get to decide (and I might ask you to prove your “connection”) — my worry is that people who’ve never even been to Mitchell might find this website and enter and win, which kind of ruins the whole thing. If you’re not sure, go ahead and enter — we’ll figure it out if your number comes up.
  • Depending on my mood, schedule, and whether or not I feel like driving to Mitchell, you’ll either get your prize in person or through the mail (in which case you’ll have to provide me with your address).
  • You must be of legal age to drive to enter.
  • I reserve the right to disqualify you for any reason. I’m not going to do it just because I may not like you or any other stupid reason, but if something absurd comes up I want to be able to take care of it.
  • I reserve the right to change or add to these rules (just in case I’ve forgotten something). I’ve never done this before, so I don’t know what kind of situations may spring up.

Wow, okay, didn’t really mean for there to be that many rules, but I guess there have to be in order for the whole thing to happen smoothly. I just thought this would be something fun to do and maybe help somebody out a little bit. Like I said, make it easy on me and I’ll give away more stuff in the future.

With that, good luck!

Okay everybody, sorry it has taken me so long. I've had a bunch of stuff going on lately (working full-time, being a full-time student, running a business part-time, and teaching part-time) and am just starting to get caught up on things. The winner of the $25 gas was Larry Brown. A gift certificate was purchased from 60's Eastside (thanks @jl!) and mailed out to Larry. I don't think I've heard anything from him saying he got it, but I don't have a reason to believe he didn't. Stay tuned for another giveaway coming soon!

The forums Jeremy has just set up are the place to go for discussion of anything and everything. How many of you have visited there? The last several comments on this thread could have been posted on the forums.

No one got fired from the water department. One of the dispatchers are no longer there tho. Does anyone know why Terry Bock is riding with Flex all the time??

jl
jl

Not true.

whoosiermom

I heard a rumor Friday Night that someone in the water dept. had been fired and they had trashed the place. Has anyone heard anything about this? And does it have anything to do with all the unpaid water bills?

Why do all the comments show up under $25.00 in free gas?

to post #35 and 36; I have been thinking the same thing for a week. I still read this site daily, but find no interesting discussions or anything on which to comment.

I did. I got the e-mail and replied. I am just waiting to hear from him. I figure that he must have gotten a lil busy.

I was just thinking the same thing, either no one comes on here anymore, or the city is just being run too damn good with Terrell that nothing is going on. No news is good news. Hell, I just wanna know who won the damn $25 gas contest.

man is this site boring now

Wow. What is going on? There is nothing going on to talk about? What is happening with the city? Any thing going on at city hall? Where has everyone gone? There has to be something to discuss.

Actually, I "thought" I won, but I have yet to receive my email !! haha

Well I figure I did, although I have yet to hear back from Jeremy. Of course I know that he keeps himself busy these days. So I patiently wait. Thanks again Jeremy!!!!

I've sent an e-mail to the person whose number was randomly selected (using the sequence generator at random.org). If I get a reply within 24 hours we have a winner so check your e-mail!

Hey Jeremy, You know I never win anything anyway, but you never mentioned in your rules and I am assuming the answer is no, for "conflict of interest" sake, but can a family member enter your contest?? ha Couldn't resist asking! I was just interested in the free gas also!! By the way, I love your website too!

I think the 25 Dollar prize is a nice gift. I also love your website Jeremy and also like your delving into Mitchell poloticecs, I think it keeps the Mayor and Council on their toes. Thanks

Jeremy - What rick and jl said. A parent got it painted and (as the TM put it) "borrowed" a couple of city workers to help put it up. I thought someone had painted it directly on the tower when I was first told about it and immediately thought of the Jeff Foxworthy redneck joke about taking a paint can to the water tower to defend your sister's honor. It's still a nice display of community spirit - more so if we win, obviously.

jl
jl

As for the banner on the tower , a parent of one of the girls b-ball players actually painted it and he put it up there himself.

rick
rick

actually the had a banner put on the tower

jeremy

@Arob: Did the City or someone paint it or did some kids decide to do it on their own? @whoosiermom: Thanks! @MitchellMom77: Awesome, thanks for letting me know. I'll probably be passing through there again this weekend so I'll stop in and see if I can get one.

Jeremy~ The CO-OP has offered gift certificates in the past, so I'm assuming they still have them. I'll be heading over there shortly at lunch to fill up and I'll ask them. As far as prices go, they are almost always the cheapest, but 60's has some really nice gals working there who are always friendly whenever I go in, so I frequent both places :)

Hey, Yeah Happy Belated Birthday, Hope you dont have a hangover!! Great idea, as one of my jobs requires me to drive alot, I spend about a $100.00 a week on gas.

I'm in. Let's see - connections to Mitchell. Uhm, I live there. Although you might think that our city name this week is GO JACKETS, Indiana if you read the water tower.

@mitcHELL: As far as I'm concerned, they do. @jl: LOL, thanks. I'd prefer the Co-op (they always seem to have the lowest price as well -- I fill up there everytime I come through), but if that doesn't work out 60's Eastside may be my next option. @Animal Lover: Unfortunately, that's not possible. The grants are intended for the road and must be used for that purpose. @Maude Mae: Didn't come out ahead, but I didn't lose as much as usual so that's a win as far as I'm concerned! Got lots of drinks bought for me, though!

jl

@Animal lover; I think that is a great idea !!

I think we should take the money from Hamilton Blvd and use it to fix the water problem and whatever else needs fixing. Let Lehigh build their own damn road.
