Chief Richardson Suspended

Today is July 1st.  You might remember that exactly six months ago, on January 1st, Mayor Terrell officially took office.  One of first duties was to appoint Jim Richardson as Chief of the Mitchell Police Department.

You might also remember that, in order to be in that position, it was required that Chief Richardson attend some training since he had been out of law enforcement so long.

Mayor Terrell suspended Chief Richardson without pay today for not completing the required training in the alloted time. It has been alleged that Chief Richardson also attempted to get two other officers (not sure who) to sign off stating that he had completed the training when, in fact, he hadn’t.

Steve Blair is acting Chief of the Mitchell Police Department.

Christy is the pool manager but she, herself, will tell you she knows nothing about the PH levels or anything to do with the chemicals for the pool. Ron Marsh took care of that area. Yes, Jeremy Jackson was a dispatcher. Not a very sociable or nice one at that lol.

Was Jeremy Jackson a dispatcher? Well, I do have to say, it is a start--they have to start somewhere to get costs down.

I thought Christy was the pool manager, over the operations of the pool and Ron was the park manager--over the grounds, as in tennis courts, shelter house, playground, etc...? Wouldnt being the pool manager mean some type of knowledge of how the pool works, you know, in case the park manager calls in sick or something?

No one! He has been officially laid off until further notice. Jeremy Jackson, I believe, was terminated and Kelsey was laid off too.

Who has been appointed to take Ron Marsh's spot?

Christy runs the concession stand, makes the schedules for the guards and stand staff, balances the cash register at the end of the day, etc. She has no clue about the chemicals or the likes. She supposedly made the comment if she knew that this was going to happen that she would not have taken the position.

Just what does Christy Wintczak do there? Just because Ashley was there last year doesnt mean she "knows' what she is doing.

JL, I didn't say Ashley was in charge of the pool at all. She has been and is trained to deal with the chemicals at the pool as she was the pool manager last year. NO ONE else there knows anything about it. She will not do it as she is just a lowly lifeguard this year and since Ron is officially gone as of Friday, just who is going to maintain the PH levels???? Kind of scary for my child and other children going there. Never mind....mine won't be going after Ron Marsh is gone.

WHAT?!?!?! Ashely Yoder would know how to do the chemicals for the pool?? Are you joking??? She cant walk 10 ft. without falling on her face. I sure the heck would not leave her in charge of a pool with children and chemicals.

Well, I got a news update today on our administration. Mayor Terrell laid off or let go Ron Marsh, Jeremy Jackson, and his daughter Kelsey. He is going to lay off five more this coming week. The pool was open today and should have not been as the chemical levels were dangerous and not up to state regulations. The people Mayor Terrell left in charge of the pool have no idea how to do the chemicals. The only two people that do are Ron Marsh and Ashley Yoder. Gee Danny, just what are you thinking? I understand we need lay offs to help with our money situation but why not wait to lay Ron Marsh off until after the pool season is over. That makes more common sense to me than not having anyone that is capable of keeping our children protected from the dangerous elements in the pool. I really wonder at times what you are thinking and why you think they way you do. I seriously hope you are going to lay off Steve Blair and get a real police officer in there as Police Chief.

Many did speak out at the water rate increase meeting. A petition was also presented. Despite the negative feelings and comments of those that spoke out, council raised the bills. A suggestion is to SHARE your views with those council members. They will still vote what they feel is best. They do not get the final say in the police chief. Dan Terrell appoints his choice. The issues with Mr. Richardson's investigation firm were posted PRIOR to Jan. 1. Mr. Terrell apparently was not interested as "Jim is his friend." History repeats itself. I personally feel that people in Mitchell do want change, which is why Dan Terrell was voted into office. Vicki Brown phrased it nicely in her comments to the board and Mr. Terrell. She reiterated that "Rome was not built in a day."

I know I go to them but I rarely hear anyone speak besides the council. Plenty of people have an opinion but really dont want change or they are afraid to try and make a difference.

Indiana is a no petition state and those are largely ineffective in getting anything done. Just go to the next city council meeting.

I have read the comments posted here and on tmnews.com. Sounds like Richardson has no morals or values. Do we really want someone like that running our police dept.? Are leaders supposed to be leaders? If this guy is leading the other officers in his direction then God help us!!! Maybe everyone should start sending some letters to the mayors office asking for Richardsons resignation. Or how about starting a petition to have him removed. We can all post on this and other websites all day but unless we let the admin hear our voices directly nothing will change.

I agree resign already. This city needs to move forward not 10 steps back. I knew the first time I talked to Mr. Richardson regarding a citizen concern that he would not help Mitchell. Get someone in there that the policeman and citizens respect and get us moving forward. I do believe the policeman we have now are in this for the right reasons and want to do a good job. We have got to stop spending money. If Mr. Richardson did try and forge documents he should be charged with that. Come on Mr. Terrell show us what you've got. You said you was going to stop all the negatives and so far it is blowing up in your face. You will never get re-elected the way you are going. Talk around town is people really are regretting their vote. I know Chastain was not any better but come on someone has got to be able to turn this town around. Does anyone know how if it is possible to get someone out of office if they are voted in?

I think that Mr. Richardson MUST resign his position with the police department. He has lost the trust of his officers, the current administration and the people he serves. Please, Mr. Richardson, resign and let's move on. You are NOT what this city needs when it comes to the police department. Mr. Terrell: Please appoint someone to that position that has good sense and the respect of this community. Steve Blair has never done anything to me, personally, but I don't believe he has much respect in the community, from what I hear. I personally believe you made a mistake in not appointing Troy Lobosky to fill that position in the first place. He was a professional police officer, through and through. I have always liked Mr. Richardson, but I am beginning to think he's no better than anyone else, in allegedly trying to forge documents. Besides, he spends too much money on "equipment and software" and not enough on policing the city. I hope this situation wakes everyone up. Yes, we need change. Thank you, Mr. Terrell, for trying to get that accomplished, but I think you can do better.

I had heard that Geyer was supposed to be coming back, so maybe we'll get lucky and he'll take the Chief's position like he was supposed to before. I'm pretty sure Phelix "warned" Geyer not to take the Chief's position a while back and that's the main reason he left. Now that Phelix is gone maybe he'll have another opportunity.

I was hoping Blair would go when Phelix went...looks like we are stuck with this rude guy. If Blair stays and surely to god if he does he wont keep the Chief position, but if he does and Dan keeps the "Head Witch" over the dispatch and/or even keeps her employed there Dan will lose alot of votes next round including mine! Sure wish Geyer would come back and take the Chief position, but then again, he and the "witch" were pretty close buddies.

Yes Austin your'e right it's really getting better. Now with the new Interm Chief Blair we have one of the rudest officers in MPD History now running the PD on an interm basis. And working along with him will be the lady dispatcher that everyone has said in past posts is rude towards people who call. In fact she was made Dispatch Supervisor back in February when she had only been with the PD for just over a year with a little help from Blair. So yeah things are really getting better alright. To those who voted for & supported Terrell for mayor ya better talk to him & pursuade him to put someone else in as chief because if he sticks with Blair he has just thought he's heard complaints in the past. The complaints will skyrocket. It could well determine his politcal career.

ah good stuff even though they both claimed he would never need the training remember that one?

Ha, wow, go figure on this one. Maybe this means his son will be the chief soon even though he just started. Hahaha. Mitchell just gets better everyday. =)

I just hope they dont leave Blair in that position.
