As a “thank you” to the community, citizens of Bedford, Indiana, and the surrounding areas are invited to participate in a rare, behind-the-scenes tour of General Motors’ Bedford Plant today.

“GM is investing in U.S. manufacturing and producing the finest-quality vehicles in our history,” said Plant Manager Eric Gonzales. “We are proud of our employees, our products, and our plants, and we want to show people why. People have a certain perception as to what the inside of a plant looks like. They are always amazed at what they actually see and learn.”

“On behalf of all the UAW & IBEW members of the Bedford Plant, we are honored to co-host this event for our friends and neighbors in the area,” said Shop Chairman Jack Woods. “It will highlight all the great things that the UAW, IBEW, and GM do in this area. In addition, the event will showcase rich heritage of the UAW, IBEW, and GM working together and to the efforts of the men and women of the Bedford Plant.”

GM is hosting open houses this year in each of its 54 U.S. facilities as a tangible way to thank the American public for their support, and to showcase our great employees and the exceptional new products that they offer in today’s market.

A news conference will be held at 4 p.m. and a special announcement of community grants from the General Motors Foundation will be held at the plant.

Free tours of the plant will be available from 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. today, September 29th. Visitors and guests must wear closed toes shoes (i.e. no high heels). Handicap accessible tours are available, according to a General Motors press release.

In addition to the tours of the plant, other attractions during the open house will include displays of GM vehicles, a “Ride & Drive” including the highly sought after opportunity to drive the brand new Chevrolet Volt Extended Range Electric Vehicle. Other displays include a the Transformers display cars, Dredbot & Bumble Bee, and the Freedom Camaro. Safe Kids USA will have an interactive display as well.

The Bedford GM Plant is located at 105 GM Drive, Bedford, Indiana. Visitors should park in the designated visitor area and proceed to the tents on the north side of the plant.
