A would-be robber might have planned out his robbery and getaway, but he didn’t know he’d encounter an armed customer in the store he was about to rob.

According to police, Carlos Ortiz entered the AutoZone on Arlington Road on Indianapolis’ east side Saturday with intentions of robbing the store.

At least one customer waiting in line, however, was armed. He drew his own weapon and fired several shots, striking Ortiz in the leg.

Ortiz was transported to Wishard Hospital in good condition after police arrested him. He was charged with robbery, confinement, and being a serious violent felon in possession of a gun.
