Before a fire wiped out George’s Gateway this weekend, members of the Bedford Fire Department spent a few hours fighting another blaze.

BFD responded to a call shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday reporting a fire at the home where Justin and Bobbi Jo (Taylor) Hunter and their two small children lived at 2314 30th Street in Bedford.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home — “pretty much a complete loss” — and left the family in need of clothing and other items.

Items of clothing in the following sizes would, I’m certain, be greatly appreciated by the family:

  • Ladies size 18,
  • Mens size 3X shirts and 44 pants,
  • Boys size 24m-2T and size 7 shoes, and
  • Boys size 7-8 pants and size 13 shoes.

A drop-off site for donations for the family has been set up at SICIL, located at 157 Teke Burton Drive in Mitchell.

If you have items that you can donate but can’t make it to the drop-off site, please call (812) 650-4346 and leave a voicemail message with your phone number. I’ll be travelling between Bloomington and Mitchell today (Monday) and will be happy to get with you to arrange to pick the items up.

I’m not aware of any funds that have been set up, but anyone wishing to make a financial donation — no matter how small or large — may do so online via PayPal. You can use your debit or credit card or bank account (you don’t even need to set up a PayPal account) and any amount, even $1, will be deeply appreciated by the family, I’m sure. I’ll make sure they get every penny.
