A report released Wednesday by the Bloomington Fire Department says that there was no smoke detector in the Terra Trace apartment where 19-year-old Indiana University student Renee Ohrn died October 1st.

According to the report, the tenant said he took down the smoke detector the night before the fire because it had been going off repeatedly and annoying him.

Investigators determined the fire started in the apartment below where Ohrn died near a ceiling light. They ruled the fire accidental.

Smoke detectors were found in all of the other apartments in the building, investigators say.
