Early Wednesday morning, Indiana State Police and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle crash on Country Road 700 East just south of County Road 225 North. There, they found a black Ford Explorer was that was overturned and resting on the passenger side.

About one-half mile from the crash, police found the alleged driver and her three small children, ages three, two, and six months. The children were apparently restrained and no injuries were reported in the crash.

While speaking with the woman at her home, ISP Trooper Brent Robinson, a Drug Recognition Expert, “detected impairment”. The woman consented to a search of the resident where officers allegedly found a small amount of marijuana and multiple drug related items.

The woman, 24, of Sullivan, was preliminary charged with several crimes, including:

  • Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a Child (Refusal), a Class D felony,
  • Neglect of a Dependent (three counts), a Class D felony,
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Class D felony,
  • Possession of a Syringe, a Class D felony,
  • Possession of Marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

The woman’s boyfriend and father of the six-month-old, age 38, Sullivan, was also at the home and charged with several counts:

  • Neglect of a Dependent (three counts), a Class D felony,
  • Possession of a Syringe, a Class D felony,
  • Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a class D felony,
  • Possession of Marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor,
  • Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

Both were arrested and taken to the Sullivan County Jail where they are being held on bonds over $50,000 each.

The Indiana Department of Child Services came to the residence, evaluated the children, and released them to other family members.
