Two Bedford men were arrested on various charges Tuesday night after a surprise visit from parole officers and Oolitic police officer Bill Allen, who said they found “quite a bit of crack cocaine and powder cocaine”.
The parole officers, along with Allen and his K-9, Shani, went to the home at 421 M Street in Bedford for a regular parole visit. While there, however, Shani “alerted on an area of the house where the powder cocaine was,” Allen was quoted as saying.
A further search of the home led to the discovery of crack cocaine and a small caliber firearm. More than three grams of each of the drugs was found, according to police.
The owner of the home, Kevin Brooking, 37, was charged with possession of cocaine with a firearm, reckless possession of paraphernalia, and maintaining a common nuisance.
Daniel Pace, 32, who is on parole, was charged with dealing cocaine (more than 30 grams) as well as maintaining a common nuisance.
Both were arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Security Center where they were booked in around 8:30 p.m. Brooking is being held on a $20,000 bond. Pace is being held without bond because he is on parole.
