Police were called to Persimmon Park Apartments in Mitchell Sunday evening after an incident in which a 40-year-old Mitchell woman punched her 14-year-old nephew in the face.

The boy was at the home of his aunt, Jamie Clemens, on Spice Valley Road Sunday and was being driven home when the incident occurred. Clemens’ husband was driving the vehicle, with Clemens in the passenger seat, and the boy riding in the back. Clemens was reportedly talking about the boy’s father, who died when the was boy was two years old.

Clemens told the boy that “he was worthless” and should commit suicide like his father did.

Then, for an unknown reason, while travelling on Hancock Avenue, Clemens began hitting the boy in the face. She then took his eyeglasses, broke them, and threw them out the window of the car. They were later found in a yard just east of 8th Street and, after being examined and photographed by police, were returned to the boy.

Police later went to the home of Jamie Clemens, Mitchell, and arrested her for battery on a minor resulting in injury and criminal mischief.

Clemens remains in the Lawrence County Security Center on a $750 bond.
