An area man was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with three counts of child molesting, one count of attempted child molesting, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jeffery Gipson, 31, 215 Eighth Street, Bedford, attempted to have sex with the girl in April 2012. Also, he reportedly “rubbed” the girl and performed oral sex on her on two different occasions, police say.

The 13-year-old girl told police that Gipson said he had fallen in love with her when she was only 11, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Lawrence Circuit Court.

Gipson and the girl had drank shots of liquor together when the alleged events took place. Gipson told Indiana State Police officers that the two had laid down together on a bed after drinking together, according to the affidavit.

Gipson, however, denied being the aggressor.

The four child molesting charges are all Class A felonies which carry a prison term of 20 to 50 years.

Sources tell us that additional charges are likely forthcoming, although the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office would not comment.

Gipson remains in the Lawrence County Security Center on $200,000 cash or surety bond.
